The last few weeks of Term 4!

We have been having fun with puppet plays, over the past few weeks.
The White Rabbits reading group made a play with their
Humpty Dumpty puppets, when we were learning about the letter Hh.
There was lots of giggling fun, along with the learning!

Then, guess what happened when we focused on the letter Mm?
Mischievous monkey plays! It was a fun way to learn about Mm words.

We enjoyed Mem Fox's story about The Magic Hat
and we made our own Magic Hats.
We pretended that our hat could turn us into whatever we wanted to be!
Here we are, at home time, all the super swimmers, fairies, transformers and more!

Look at us, having lots of fun, dancing to Mm Music!
It's been a very busy second half to our final school term.
We were preparing for our fun School Gala, along with
lots of good work and thinking around what it means to be a successful learner
at Motueka South School. We have also been preparing end of year reports and portfolios
to show our parents the learning progress we have been making.
We have also had lots of pre-school visiting children lately,
so our classroom is extra busy and buzzing to finish the term.
Well done everyone, for all your good work
and a special thanks to all the parents who have helped in our classroom over the year.
We wish you all a happy and safe Summer holiday
and look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Pp Princesses and Pirates, Popcorn and Pizza

This week, we have been learning about the letter Pp.
Here is Ebonee with her Pp paper parrot.
She carefully coloured the parrot and cut it out
to make a Pp parrot puppet. Well done, Ebonee.

Here we are, Pp pirates and princesses making popcorn, waiting for the popcorn to pop!
Thank you to Samuel's mum Emma for helping us.
Our new friend John came to visit with his mum Raewyn and his helper, Tina.
John enjoyed making the Pp popcorn and eating it! Welcome John.

Look at Pp Princesses Tui and Maya, eating our Pp pineapple pizza! Yum!

Pp Pretty Princess Georgia had fun, making Pp popcorn and pizza too.

Here is our new friend, Aaliyah. She was Pp Princess Aaliyah on Fun Friday!
She has just started school, in our class.
Welcome Aaliyah and your lovely smile.

Taking Care of Our Teeth and Our Environment

On Fun Friday, we made Enviro Inventions.
We have been talking about why we are an Enviroschool
and what that means. The children all made an invention
using recycled boxes. It had to help our environment.
Here is Alex with his super duper rubbish scooper! Isn't it cool?!
Well done, Alex, great thinking to use the egg box like a bulldozer scoop!

Look at all the children, busy making and painting their inventions.
Everyone had interesting ideas for their inventions.
This week, we have been learning about the letter Ii as well, so
the inventing also helped our class to remember the Jolly Phonics Ii sound.

Here are Maya, Cheyenne and Tui with their Inchworm puppets.
They each read 5 books to their puppet, when it was finished.

Georgia and Tasmyn were Impy Indians this week as well!

They made Ii Impy Indian headbands.

Last week we learned about the letter Tt and on Fun Friday

we all learned to brush our teeth correctly, making gentle circles

and brushing everywhere: up, down, front and back.

All the children took home a new sparkly toothbrush

and a tube of toothpaste from our Colgate Oral Health kit.

Our thanks to Colgate for helping us learn about toouthbrushing and the letter Tt.

Super Fun Friday!

Today we had a Super Fun Friday at school!
We are learning about how important it is to look after our environment.
So this morning, our junior school classes all walked down to the Motueka Cinema
at the Recreation Centre, to watch a movie called "Wall-E" as a treat.
A big thank you to Mark for the special viewing.
Then this afternoon we held our whole school "Jump Rope for Heart" afternoon.
Children brought gold coins for donation to the NZ Heart Foundation
and we all had lots of fun, skipping and playing games together.
In the first photo, Sai-Eva and Tasmyn are running to the middle of the parachute.
Everyone enjoyed the parachute game with Mrs Karetai.

We all had a try at long rope skipping.
It was pretty tricky but we know that mistakes don't matter,
they're a part of learning...and when we practise, we get better and better.

Here we are, playing Octopus with our big friends from room 10.
We call this game Seaweed when we play it by ourselves but it's the same game.
We had to run fast to get to the other side!

Maya and Tui are learning to skip with short ropes.
The big buddies from room 10 were helping us today.

Joshua, Hamish and Samuel tried really hard at Jump Jam in the hall.
It was tricky but we all had a good try and it was fun!
We had a great day, a Super Fun Friday today.
Thank you to our big buddies in room 10 for their help.
Thanks also to the parents who helped with walking
to and from the Motueka Cinema this morning.

End of term 3

Here is our new friend, Joshua.
Josh enjoyed our end of term treat.
We have been learning about the letters
at the end of the alphabet.
Last week we made Vv volcanoes in the sandpit.
This week we made Yy Yummy Yoghurt and Yumbo Gumbo
fruit salad. It was a yummy way to end the term.

We had to take care with the knife when we were chopping
up the fruit for our Yumbo Gumbo fruit salad.
Adam was very careful and he did a good job, chopping up the apple.

Here is our healthy treat!
Yummy, Yummy Yoghurt and
Yumbo Gumbo Fruit Salad. Delicious!

Look at the children, learning to make paper pulp
with Mrs Schweigman (Mrs S), our trainee teacher.
We made paper pulp pots because they are biodegradable.
After the holidays we plan to plant seeds in the pots
and grow them in our school garden.

Here are Chloe and Samuel, busy focusing
on making their paper pulp pots. It was a tricky job!
Thanks to Mrs S for helping us.
We wish everyone a happy holiday
and best wishes to the group of students
who are moving on to Room 1 next term.
Good luck, try hard and you are all sure to do well.
Ka kite!

Daffodil Day and all sorts

On Daffodil Day we had yummy yellow ice-creams
for a special treat. The money we paid
went to support the local Cancer Society,
so it was all for a good cause.

Here we all are, with our yellow Daffodil Day clothes
and our yellow face paint.
We had fun on Daffodil Day.

Here are Sai-Eva and Imogen
in their Daffodil Day outfits.
Sai-Eva brought her yellow friend Sponge Bob
to visit too, since it was Fun Friday.

Bob Bickerton came to entertain us with
a special musical performance called "Bush Creek."
He played lots of instruments and told a funny story.
We all enjoyed the music.

Look at Chloe and Lareesha, Piper and Sai-Eva
munching on their "Toast B4 School" this week.
Delicious! The children have been really keen on
having a second toasty breakfast when they get to school.
It's giving them lots of energy for the morning's learning.
We're having a busy, fun time as always in Room 4.
We have now completed our study of The Deep Ocean
and next week we start to make recycled pots
so that we can grow seeds for our school garden.
That should be fun! Ka kite!

Our Deep Ocean trip to the Mapua Aquarium

We have been learning about "The Deep Ocean"
and this week we went for a visit to the Mapua Aquarium
to learn some more! Richard de Hamel showed us lots of new and interesting creatures
from the bottom of the sea and we enjoyed seeing all the other sea animals too!
Here are Jackson and Joshua working "the Grabber" together.
They are trying to grab something from "Sea Town".
It was a really tricky job!

Richard was a super host at the "Touch the Sea" Aquarium.
and he had lots of cool "research activity" jobs for us to do.
He is from the Marine Studies Centre
and he knows lots about "The Deep Ocean".
Here we are looking at a real, live squid.
Richard told us all about it and he showed us its funny, sharp beak mouth.

We have been researching Sea Stars and we saw live ones
in the "Touch Tanks". It was fantastic to see them moving around
and we even saw one that was growing new arms.

Look at Piper and Imogen. They look happy.
They were standing in front of a fish tank at the Aquarium.
Everyone had favourite sea animals from the trip.
Some liked the sharks and stingrays, some liked the turtles, the octopus,
others liked the sea stars best, some the eels and the frozen deep sea fish
and we all liked the seahorses.

Here we all are, outside the "Touch the Sea" Aquarium at Mapua.
We had a great time on our trip. We learned more about "The Deep Ocean"
and we thought of more Inquiry questions too!
We send a big thank you to all the parents and Imogen's nana,
for helping us with transport on the day.
